Gary Cox Band

History

The Gary Cox band was born in 2005. I'd been toying with a new band for a year or so and it just wasn't working. I'd grown
weary of playing the same covers as every other band and wanted to do something musical , yet accessible. So after stumbling
across Malcolm Skinner ( Vocals and Bass ) at a jam session, we decided to form a band. Our hope was to treat a pub gig more
like it was a concert and really pull out the stops. Finding the right drummer was proving a problem, until one day I filled in with a
cover band. They had also hired a drummer ( Wayne Antioch ) for that gig and he fitted the bill for my solo band so well I asked him
to join. This he promptly did. We rehearsed solidly for months before debuting at the Perth Blues Club for a Rory Gallagher Tribute
night 14/6/2005. Subsequently we've been regularly gigging around Western Australia, including a great set of gigs at the Bridgetown Blues Festival !

We choose out setlist from a mixed bag of  well over 100 songs, covering all tastes but deeply blues based. Some tunes are original and all the
covers be play have our own special touches too. Slide guitar is a special feature in our sets. We regularly play the songs of Rory Gallagher, Ry
Cooder, Eric Clapton, BB King, The Rolling Stones, Robert Johnson, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, and all the old blues greats. Sometimes
for some spice we'll add a Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, XTC, The Smiths, Crowded House or Pink Floyd song into the mix, but mostly just 'rocking' blues.

Gary Cox - Guitar,  Synth and Vocals

Originally from Newcastle England, Gary has played guitar for as long as he can remember. He has become a reknowned slide
guitarist, often performing the Film score work of Ry Cooder ! A very diverse musician Gary's heart is the blues but he also has
a love for rock, jazz and classical music and will usually try and intigrate some of these genre's in his works. A few of his favourite
musicians are Ry Cooder, Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher, Frank Zappa, Eric Clapton, The Smiths, Kate Bush, Pink Floyd amongst
many many others. A true melting pot !!!
